Reef Check Malaysia’s Annual Event 2025
Vision 2030: The Next Five Years
On 6 November 2025, we gathered for our Annual Event, bringing together our supporters, funders, EcoDivers, and our entire team for a night of sharing and networking.
Julian Hyde, our Chief Executive Officer, provided insights into the current state of coral reefs in 2025 and briefly shared Reef Check Malaysia’s strategies and objectives for the next five years. Julian also highlighted our interactive map, which helps researchers, policymakers, and the public view trends in Malaysia’s coral reef health over the past five years, visualise locations and data more effectively, and better understand the indicators of good reef health.
Our Programme Managers—Shahir, Don, Asma, Nadhirah, and Adzmin—shared updates on conservation initiatives and community programmes across Tioman Island, the Mersing group of islands, Redang Island, Mantanani Island in Sabah, and Semporna.
This year, our Chief Operating Officer, Theresa Ng, spoke about our International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) efforts and the second instalment of our ICC event, Kod Blue: Laut Needs You 2025, held at Kampung Juara, Tioman Island. Theresa also introduced our Adopt seKarang initiative, which allows members of the public to make a donation to “adopt” a coral in support of reef rehabilitation efforts and the communities that protect these ecosystems.
Our Chief Public Policy and Advocacy Officer, Jasmin Saad, presented our new advocacy arm and approach. Jasmin also shared that we were recently invited to a special parliamentary committee meeting to deliver a presentation.
We also had the pleasure of hearing a few words from Ms. Ruzina Hasan, the Political Counsellor for the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, an organisation that has been a steadfast supporter of RCM since day one.
Our Heartfelt Gratitude
