Our Mission
Reef Check Malaysia is committed to the preservation and protection of Malaysia’s coral reefs and marine ecosystems. Since 2007, we have been part of a global network dedicated to sustainable marine management through community involvement, rigorous research, and ongoing monitoring. Our mission is to empower local communities, promote marine education, and foster partnerships that drive conservation efforts. By conducting over 300 coral reef surveys annually, we aim to integrate resilience-based strategies into marine conservation, ensuring the long-term health of our oceans.
Our Initiatives
Programmes for Tourism Operators
Reef Check Certified Dive Centre
Become a certified partner and contribute to coral reef conservation by training your staff as Reef Check Trainers. This program enables your dive centre to conduct EcoDiver trainings and participate in our ongoing surveys.
Green Fins Membership
Join Green Fins to adopt sustainable tourism practices. This initiative introduces environmental standards to dive and snorkel operators, promoting eco-friendly operations that protect marine life.
Green Hotels Assessment
Adopt sustainable practices at your resort or chalet through the Green Hotel Assessment. This assessment is an initiative that aims to encourage hotels or chalets to practice more environmentally friendly operating procedures to protect the environment.
We will introduce the programme to resort or chalet owners and assess their businesses based on the criteria listed in the Green Hotel Assessment.
Eco-Friendly Snorkelling Guide (EFSG)
Get certified as an eco-friendly snorkelling guide by joining the EFSG course. The course will teach you snorkelling practices that reduce the pressures on coral reefs and marine life and also alternatives to harmful practices, such as anchoring, fish feeding, and so on.
