Growing a Greener Coast Together

A healthy mangrove forest starts with a community that cares. In Kampung Pasir Gogok, around 30 community members came together to clean the coastline and prepare the site for new mangrove nursery plots.

Following the cleanup, participants established four community-managed mangrove nurseries, planting 55 Rhizophora mucronata propagules while learning practical restoration techniques. The momentum has continued beyond the event, with community members collecting additional propagules and caring for the nursery themselves—a promising step towards long-term mangrove restoration and healthier coastlines.

Beyond Classroom Learning

Learning about the ocean doesn’t only happen in classrooms. In Kampung Pasir Gogok, RCM is helping make marine conservation part of everyday life through educational signboards and outreach materials placed at key community locations.

The first signboard, installed near the village jetty, introduces visitors and residents to the importance of seagrass ecosystems and the vital role they play in supporting marine life and local fisheries. By making conservation information more accessible, the initiative encourages greater appreciation and stewardship of the marine environment.
