Looking Ahead: The Future of Marine Management in Malaysia
On 14 November 2024, we gathered for our Annual Event, bringing together our supporters, funders, EcoDivers, and our entire team.
Julian Hyde, our Chief Executive Officer, provided insights into the current state of coral reefs as of 2024 and shared his remarkable adventures to Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, and COP 16 in Cali, Colombia. Invited by the Reef Check Foundation, Julian trained Reef Check Hawaii and shared his experiences managing Reef Check Malaysia. He also exchanged knowledge with Reef Check Dominican Republic and shared his key takeaways from attending COP 16.
Our Programme Managers—Shahir, Don, Asma, and Nadhirah—and Assistant Programme Manager, Fauzi, presented updates on conservation initiatives across Tioman Island, the Mersing group of islands, Redang Island, Mantanani Island in Sabah, and Semporna.
This year, our Chief Programme Officer, Alvin Chelliah, discussed our International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) efforts and the second installment of our ICC event, Kod Blue: Laut Needs You 2024, held at Kampung Air Batang, Tioman Island. Alvin also highlighted the fourth global mass coral bleaching event that occurred this year and shared findings from our regular coral bleaching monitoring.
